It is obtained by firing magnesium carbonate or magnesite (MgCO3) at about 550 ° C in shaft or rotary kilns and grinding in ball mills. It is a white powder, insoluble in water, alcohol and ether, soluble in dilute acids. C. on. 3,3, pure MgO content at least 85%, CaO do 3,5%, carbonic acid approx 0,1%.
Caustic magnesite is used together with magnesium chloride as a binder for construction purposes (producing xylolite tiles as prefabricated elements or laying floors on the construction site), in industry - for the production of hydraulic mortars, production of refractory stones and crucibles.
