Cutting glass tubes and rods. Use the edge of a sharp file to make a scratch in the desired place and separate the two parts with a breaking and stretching movement. If the tube does not break with light pressure, deepen the scratch. This method cannot be used to cut pipes with a diameter greater than 1 cm.
Bottle cutting. The cylindrical parts of the bottles can serve as substitute vessels. Two people are required to cut through, one of which vigorously pulls the ends of the string, and the other, holding a bottle, after the cut point is sufficiently heated, quickly immerses the bottle in a vessel of water. Wet the sharp edges, using a sheet of waterproof sandpaper, placed on a glass or metal plate.
